Traders at Muthurwa market have raised concern over what they term as poor services by the county government despite being taxed everyday.

According to the Chairman of the traders association, Nelson Githaiga, there are many open sewers which apart from being an eye sore are a health threat.

Githaiga added that there are occasions when traders are forced to clean the market themselves because the county has not been efficient in garbage collection.

“There has been a huge challenge in garbage collection and we have tried to address the issue with relevant authorities but up to now we are still forced to sit in a dirty environment. We are even scared of the oncoming rains because for sure the market will become filthy and a health risk.” He said

The traders have also decried the high rate of crime in the area.

The traders argue that the market operates 24 hours and most of the times traders are terrorized by thieves within the market.

“Many times traders or shoppers are robbed within the market and we would like the county government as well as the National government to ensure traders and shoppers are safe when transacting in the market.” Added Githaiga
