Jacques Tuyisenge’s first season at Gor Mahia back in 2016 ended in rather disappointing fashion as K’Ogallo were unable to retain their League crown eventually losing out to Paul Nkata’s Tusker on the second last match day of the 2016 Kenya Premier League season.

Though still adapting to a new league in a new country, the Rwandan international was partly blamed for Gor Mahia’s failures that season. Some of the blame was due to the fact that he was the clubs most expensive signing in their entire history as Gor coughed a clean 4 million Kenyan shillings to acquire his services while others pointed to the fact that the record league Champions amassed a total of 12 draws that season, 8 of them with a score of 0-0. The K’Ogallo faithful noticing how blunt their attack was despite an injection of millions worth of attacking talent.

Tuyisenge was tasked with replacing 19 goal Micheal Olunga who had replaced the prolific Dan Sserunkuma a year earlier, judging by his first season he had failed to do so. The lanky forward however grew into his own and helped Gor Mahia reclaim the league title the following season with important match winning goals and became an integral part of Gor Mahia’s attack. The Micheal Olunga comparisons immediately died down after the K’Ogall faithful soon realized they had another special goal netter in their ranks.

Tuyisenge is still banging in the goals three years later and has adapted spectacularly to the loss of his strike partner and compatriot Meddi Kagere who joined Tanzania giants Simba last season. Only last week, he scored what is Gor Mahia’s most important goal of the past ten years and secured entry into the quarter finals of the CAF Conferations Cup.

From the minute he steeped up to take that penalty against Petro Atletico no one had any doubts that we would score, such is his quality.

Jacques Tuyisenge is head and Shoulders above any Gor Mahia player at the moment in terms of consistency and reliability. He may have started on a slow note but he has rightly earned the right to be viewed as Gor Mahia’s most important player!
