‘No one should donate a coin to Turkana,’ Kenyans pose, ‘Let the government do it’

Kenyans have defied the recent calls for donation towards the aid of drought victims in Turkana, Baringo among other hunger-stricken regions.

This comes as a couple of well-wishing initiatives have been posted online calling for fund raising.

However, some of the Kenyans have likened the new charity call to the 2011 Kenyans for Kenya initiative that served the same purpose.

Faced by the same hunger pandemic in 2011, Kenyans under the initiative mobilised corporates and members of the public to raise Ksh 500million towards relief for 3 million Kenyans faced by starvation in the Northern part of Kenya.

This time around, they have said they will break the cycle by letting the government be accountable.

“The taxes we pay should be enough to feed this country. Let’s hold the government responsible for failing on its mandate and force it to be accountable,” read one tweet.
