Manchester United legend blasts the side for deviating from the norms

Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has accused his former side of moving away from the norm that has made it special over the years.

He said while lamenting the kind of managers and players that have been brought into the club in recent years. He believes not just any player should be signed at the 13-time Premier League champions

He told the Irish Independent: ‘Manchester United is not like every other club and people who don’t understand that will fail when they go there. The pictures are on the walls to remind you of United’s history and in the last few years, the club has moved away from what makes it special.

‘Every player who walks through the door at United needs to have a certain DNA and too many have been signed by the club in recent years that lack those qualities.

‘It’s not just talent, it’s much more than that. Are you good enough to be a United player, do you want it enough, do you understand what it means to wear the shirt and represent the club.’

It is hard to disagree with Ferdinand because the last three permanent managers at Manchester United have been unable to get their players to consistently play the fast attacking and counter-attacking football fans at the Old Trafford club enjoyed under the legendary Sir Alex Ferguson.

The coming of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has made everyone realise that the available players at United are capable of the fast attacking and counter attacking football that fans desperately wanted under the previous three permanent mangers.

United are still on the look out for a permanent boss and it is highly unlikely the club will go for a coach that has a defensive mindset and cannot motivate players like Sir Alex Ferguson used to do and Solskjaer is doing now.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino and Max Allegri of Juventus have been linked with the role at the end of the season. United’s Chief Executive Officer Ed Woodward recently revealed that an announcement regarding the next permanent manager of the club will not be made until the end of the season
