Thibaut Courtois has turned down the chance of a return to England with Manchester United

Thibaut Courtois has turned down the chance of an immediate return to the Premier League with Manchester United.

The Belgium shot-stopper left Chelsea for Real Madrid last summer in a £35million deal, but he has struggled since moving to the Bernabeu.

The 26-year-old has been part of side that has already been knocked out of the Champions League and Copa del Rey, while capital club are languishing third in La Liga table, 12 points behind rivals Barcelona.

Things look even more bleak for the former Atletico keeper with the return of Zinedine Zidane as head coach, after the Frenchman dropped him for his first match on Saturday – a 2-0 victory against Celta Vigo.

Keylor Navas was restored in nets, prompting speculation that Courtois could already be looking for an exit.

However, according to the Sun, that will not be a move back to England, despite apparent interest from United, who are bracing themselves for a revival in Real’s interest in David de Gea now that Zidane has returned.

They believe that Courtois would be open to leaving, but that a move to Paris Saint-Germain would be more preferable.

Courtois has made 24 appearances in La Liga this season, conceding 30 goals and keeping just eight cleansheets.

He has been called up to the Belgium squad for their Euro 2020 qualifiers against Russia and Cyprus.
