President Kenyatta Urges Board To Turnaround KWS

President Uhuru Kenyatta has challenged the Kenya Wildlife Service (KWS) board of trustees to turnaround the fortunes of the state corporation.

While assuring members of the board of his support, the President said they must work hard to entrench KWS’s position as the principal protector of wildlife resources in the country.

“You have my support and I will offer any assistance you require. But you must consolidate your efforts in ensuring KWS succeeds in delivering its mandate including turning it into a profit-making entity,” President Kenyatta said.

The Head of State was speaking today when he met members of the KWS board of trustees at State House, Nairobi led by their Chairman Dr. John Waithaka.

The Board was accompanied by Tourism and Wildlife Cabinet Secretary Najib Balala.

President Kenyatta urged the Board to put in place measures that will curb human-wildlife conflicts.

The board assured the President of their commitment to wildlife protection by ensuring optimal management of wildlife resources including efficient running of parks and wildlife conservancies across the country.

They committed to work tirelessly to bring back the lost glory of the wildlife sector, saying they have put together a dedicated management team that is implementing measures to ensure growth in revenue generation.

The trustees further informed the President that they are working on finding lasting solutions to the challenge of human-wildlife conflicts. PSCU
