Having turned 22-years-old on Saturday, a lot of Everton fans were desperate for Dominic Calvert-Lewin to help himself to a late birthday present with a goal and win against Chelsea yesterday. The win he got, even if the goal eluded him, yet that didn’t stop the fans questioning why he wasn’t named as the man of the match.

The young striker is a top player and a credit to both Everton and himself. The work rate that the ex-Sheffield United man has to offer is top notch, and his hold-up play doesn’t go amiss in this current crop of Toffees with the likes of Richarlison and Gyfli Sigurdsson, who both scored yesterday, working off of him to cause havoc at Goodison Park.

In truth, Chelsea struggled to contain Calvert-Lewin throughout the game, even if the home side had a torrid opening 45 minutes. It’s for that reason that the fans were surprised to see Richarlison given the man of the match award. In the first half, the only player who looked consistently in the game was the 22-year-old Englishman, and for his 90 minutes of graft and running the fans were all desperate to see him given man of the match yesterday.

The Blue half of Merseyside came together to demand Calvert-Lewin got some appreciation for his display yesterday, and will all be hoping he can be recognised for his form next time out.
