It seems like President Uhuru Kenyatta has a knack for keeping a low profile when not on official official state duties.
On Sunday, the president stunned church-goers at the Holy Family Basilica after turning up for mass alone.
Dressed casually in a blue, stripped polo shirt and khakis, the president entered the compound under cover, much to the surprise of churchgoers.
According to reports, it was only after the president alighted from his black Mercedes G-Wagon that that the congregants established his identity, with some of them rushing to greet him.
Later in the evening, the president attended the Magical Kenya Open Golf tournament at the Karen Country Club.
Low profile
This is the second time in recent time that President Uhuru has been spotted driving himself after recently being pictured driving the same vehicle in traffic.
Five years ago, a police officer was stunned after stopping an unmarked car, only to find the president in the vehicle.
When the vehicle stopped, President Uhuru rolled down the window identifying himself before he was allowed to proceed by the perplexed officer.
“Ni mimi ofisa, fungua (it is me officer, allow us to go),” the President was heard saying.
A year ago, a video emerged on social media showing President Uhuru Kenyatta buying groundnuts along Uhuru Highway. In the video, Uhuru was seen talking to a couple of kids hawking groundnuts.
“Utanunua?” one of the children asked the president. “Tosha ya leo, nishanunua” Uhuru is heard responding as he chews groundnuts.
Afterwards, one of the kids requested Uhuru for money and the president removed a wad of notes from his trouser pocket before handing it over to the group, with instructions to share it among themselves.
“Mheshimiwa asante, Mungu akubariki” one of the children retorted. “Nawe pia” Uhuru responded.
