City lawyer risks punishment by the Supreme court

Senior Council Ahmednasir Abdullahi has been caution to stop attacking the Supreme court or risk punishment in the future.

According to the judges of the apex court the, attacks from the Senior Counsel will be treated as contempt of court proceedings.

In the ruling made on Friday, the court further stated that there will be inevitable consequences and appropriate sanctions for contempt in the face of the court.

According to the court, Mr Abdullahi conducted himself in a manner calculated to lower the dignity of the court.

Justice Jackton Ojwang, who read the ruling stated that the Senior Counsel was more than discourteous towards the court and demonstrated willful disrespect for the authority of the court.

“This was the typical instance of a trespass well outside the bounds of legitimate advocacy,” Justice Ojwang’ said.

This ruling came in the backdrop of accusations by Mr Abdullahi in a case where he argued for the release of two Iranian nationals arrested with explosives in 2012.

He had accused the court of acting as surrogates of the state to legitimize the illegal and unlawful detention of the two.

According to the lawyer, the apex court acts on impulse and is incapable of doing justice as expected.

When asked by Justice Njoki Ndungu to apologise and withdraw the offending paragraphs, Mr Abdullahi declined stating that there was nothing contemptuous [in any] of those paragraphs.
