How killer cop fell into dragnet after attempting to escape to Uganda

Police officer who shot dead his wife Thursday has been arrested in Busia.

The officer, Patrick Nyapara had escaped after he shot Catherine Maonga five times in Navakholo sub-county, Kakamega, over domestic misunderstanding.

Western Regional Police Commander Yusuf Yakub said the officer was arrested on in Busia border town Saturday afternoon as he tried to escape to the neighboring Uganda.

Held in secret location

“He was nabbed in Busia and he is being held in a secret location for security reasons,” Yakub said.

Yakub said he could not disclose where the officer was being held on grounds that it could compromise on his security.

The police boss said the officer will be arraigned in court on Monday to face murder charges.

Police in Busia earlier denied that the killer officer had been nabbed.

The officer had just been assigned to guard Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) offices in Navakholo when he instead turned on his 28, year old wife, killing her.

Maonga was a teacher at Navakholo secondary school.

Neighbours said that the suspect also attempted to shoot their three year old daughter nut they blocked him before he fled.
