Crucial Liverpool Man In The Dark Over Potential New Contract

Gini Wijnaldum has around two years remaining on his Liverpool contract – but says there has been no discussions yet from the club over extending his deal.

Since signing from Newcastle United, the Dutch midfielder has become a vital part of the team under Jurgen Klopp, with huge performances in big games regularly being produced.

Now 28, Wijnaldum is a key man and it would be a surprise if he doesn’t extend his stay at Anfield.

Via the Liverpool Echo, Wijnaldum said: “No, I did not speak with the club yet. That is something for the club. I will see what happens.

“I signed a five-year contract [in July 2016] and I am still under contract. I just do my job to perform. A new contract has to come from the club.”

It could be that the Reds do a lot of contract negotiations once the season ends, with no World Cup or European Championships to come over the summer.

Wijnaldum is surely one that Klopp will be keen to keep at the club – and with two years left on his contract, that is normally the time that negotiations take place.
