It’s used by many people every morning, but the iPhone’s snooze button could soon be a thing of the past.

Apple is being urged to scrap the snooze button, amid fears it’s linked to ‘detrimental’ mental healtheffects.

Sleep wellness company, Eve Sleep, has published an open letter to the tech giant, requesting for them to remove the snooze button from their next iOS update.

Eve Sleep claims that the 9-minute alarm has ‘damaging’ effects on the nation’s health.

Matt Janes, a Mental Health & Neuroscience expert who is supporting the campaign, explained: “The snooze button can have a detrimental effect on your health, especially your mental health – you’re essentially multiplying the assault on your brain and body each time you press snooze, by repeating the impact on your autonomic nervous system each time you’re awoken.”

The letter has been delivered to Apple today(15th March), on World Sleep Day.

James Sturrock, CEO of Eve Sleep added: “We recognize the startling effect the snooze button is having on millions of Brits every morning and on World Sleep Day we want Apple to join us in urging the nation to refuse to snooze.”

It remains unclear why Eve Sleep has decided to focus its attention on Apple, while almost all rival smartphone brands, including Samsung, feature Snooze buttons on their alarms.
