Dangerous Mungiki cartel shoots dead Nairobi University leader

The dreaded Mungiki members is back and have pitched camp in Nairobi city.

A gang that has been accused of extortion and blackmail whenever they operate is said to have brandished a gun and shot dead a former University of Nairobi student leader who had confronted them for their extortion.

The University of Nairobi student leader Antony Manyara has revealed that the source of the conflict that left OCS Ragira dead was the management of Club 36 market.

A friend sent me a text that a student had been shot by inveterate goons. Arrived at Klabuu at around 1840hrs. OCS had been shot twice in the back, 4 cops stood by, unaltered. I move close and feel his body. It’s still warm and there’s a pulse, albeit rather weak..#RIPOCSRAGIRA pic.twitter.com/LUjc0M3vWG— Clinton Chogo (@itschogo) March 14, 2019

The Club 36 market, opposite Nairobi Primary School and located a short distance from State House, where the former student become politician was on Thursday night allegedly shot dead by goons is said to be a land with interest as it a booming business center where student shop and have their meals.

In his last message on Facebook, Ocs Ragira wrote:

It is unfortunate that Mungiki are terrorising Klabu 36 traders with pangas and guns taking advantage of the situation. They are demanding 10K from every trader to build a kibanda. This issue is disturbing as the police are watching it happen. Students are being harassed and others losing their phones. We want to know why the police can side with people terrorising innocent Kenyans. Why should a mama mboga pay 10K to unknown people to do business? Are we managed by terrorists in the name of police? I reported this matter to Jogoo house control room and police were sent but they instead resorted to ignore the situation. We now appeal to the County government and National government to tell us who are these criminals. We cannot allow. Personally I was threatened by a panga. So where are we heading as a nation?
Sad!

Traders say the group has not been operating in the area discretely but has been under the police watch extorting money from business people. Mungiki, among dozens of criminal gangs remains banned in the country.

The outlawed Mungiki gang which is known to run protection rackets, particularly in the public transportation sector and business world has been accused of harassing and intimidating traders of the Club 360 market and demanding amounts ranging from Sh10,000 to Sh200,000.”

The trader further claimed that they have been operating in fear as the armed and ruthless youth have been threatening them and at times even brandishing pistols to scare them into submission.

“It has been a nasty scene, things have not been good here and nobody has been coming out to assist us,” another trader who spoke in confidence said.

The traders are demanding police to expose the leaders and the goons.
