Over 100 Matatus Impounded following Major Crackdown in Nairobi’s CBD

Over  100 public service vehicle have been impounded by Nairobi city-county enforcement team for violating traffic rules, illegal parking and causing chaos at the Central Business District.

In a radio interview this morning, director Parking Department Tom Tinega said those impounded were parking in undesignated areas prompting to unjustifiable jams and disorder in the Central Business District.

According Tinega the sanity in Nairobi CBD must prevail at all cost and they will not allow motorists  to operate without obeying the by-laws and NTSA  regulations guiding the transport sector.

‘‘Yes we have impounded more than 100 PSVs in the CBD and this is purely to restore order in the CBD  the said vehicles were causing mess and operating without following  traffic rules as per the law.’’ Said Tinega.

He further refuted claims that the parking slots for Public Service Vehicle  have been issued unfairly saying they did their best to ensure every sacco got a slot.

‘‘The accusations are unfair ,there are many saccos in Nairobi and all of them have a slot to operate, we have even gone ahead to merge some saccos just to accommodate them.’’Tinega stated.
