Gor Mahia players down tools ahead of Homeboyz clash

Gor Mahia players are reportedly on strike ahead of their Kenyan Premier League match against Kakamega Homeboyz on the afternoon of Thursday, March 14, at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos. Gor touched down form Alexandria, Egypt on Tuesday, March 12, after their Caf Confederation Cup 4-0 defeat to Zamalek on Sunday, March 10.

They were set to train at Camp Toyoyo Grounds on Wednesday, March 13, in readiness for the match against Kakamega Homeboyz, but the striking players failed to show up for warm up.

The players are demanding their unpaid dues and according to club Organising Secretary, Judith ‘Nyangi’ Anyango, they failed to show up for training on Wednesday in readiness for Thursday’s match.

“Players wako (are on) go slow. No training today. God help Gor Mahia. Players are on strike, they haven’t trained today. God help Gor Mahia,” Anyango posted on social media on Wednesday evening. Players downing tools over upaid dues at Gor Mahia isn’t something new. A fortnight ago, striker Dennis Oliech sat out of Gor’s Caf Confederation Cup match against Hussein Dey over unpaid sign-on-fee; the impasse was however resolved and he resumed training. in 2018, the team was forced to play its final matches of the season with a makeshift squad after some players boycotted training and matches over unpaid salaries and bonuses.
