The duo stationed at Railways police station in Kisumu are said to have impounded the traders’ goods and later hid them in one of their houses as they waited for the bribe.

The officers reportedly threatened to arrest the businessmen and detain them but would only release them if they paid the amount.

EACC regional director Ignatius Wekesa said the duo were filmed receiving the bribe.

Wekesa said they received a complaint from the businessmen. “We arrested the suspects in the process of receiving the bribe,” Wekesa said.

They suspects are expected to be arraigned in court either today or tomorrow.

The arrest came barely days after police attached to the regional office on Friday arrested a Kisumu county officer who was taking a bribe. The county officer was attached to the Liquor Licensing Board in Muhoroni.

Wekesa said the officer demanded Sh 50,000 bribe to drop charges of operating a bar without a permit. The trader then lured the officer to Kisumu, where she persuaded him to reduce the initial amount to Sh15,000. She then called the anti-corruption officers who laid a trap.
