Kericho Senator Aaron Cheruiyot on Tuesday claimed that leaders from the South Rift region could only reach President Uhuru Kenyatta through letters.

Cheruiyot alleged that the leaders could not have a meeting with the President in person as they used to five years ago.

“We are unable to meet the President as was the case five years ago. At the moment, South Rift leaders have to write a letter to the President to address issues of delays in funding for development.

“I can confirm this because I was a signatory to such a letter,” remarked Cheruiyot.

The Senator further asserted that development had gone down in the region due to the handshake between Kenyatta and ODM leader Raila Odinga.

Last Saturday, a section of MPs led by Kangogo Bowen (Marakwet East MP), William Kisang (Marakwet West), had accused the Head of State of deciding not to support Deputy President William Ruto, to succeed him in 2022.

The lawmakers further claimed that Kenyatta who is serving his second and final term in office, had targeted the Kalenjin community in the fight against corruption.

Marakwet West MP William Kisang had challenged the President to go ahead and support anyone else other than the DP and noted that Kenyans will make the final decision.
