Environment Cabinet Secretary Keriako Tobiko said that the government was in the process of banning plastic bottles and cutlery.
Speaking at the fourth United Nations Environment Assembly in Gigiri, Nairobi Tobiko said this was part of the State’s implementation of proper waste management.
Tobiko said that the government was implementing appropriate solid waste management measures in urban areas to safeguard the environment.
“We are implementing solid waste management policies in Nairobi, Mombasa and other major urban centres to save the environment and health of our people,” the CS stated.
“In Kenya, we banned plastic use in 2017 and we are in the process of banning plastic bottles and cutlery,” he added.
The Environment CS further stated that the government was committed on the green economy and had put in place measure like using methane gas to produce power.
