Ed Sheeran is said to have left his neighbours reeling after asking permission to have a ‘wildlife pond’ on his property and then building what they believed to be a plush pool instead.
The 28-year-old Shape Of You singer sought planning permission to build the pond to “support nature conservation…providing a natural habitat for breeding and wetland invertebrates such as dragonflies and water beetles, as well as providing a source of drinking water to birds and mammals.”
The council added in 2016 that the pond would not be used for “recreational leisure such as swimming.”
However, now, the Shape Of You singer has reportedly angered those living near his Suffolk mansion after aerial shots revealed what looks like a changing room, steps and even a jetty on the heart shaped water feature.
East Suffolk council gave permission for the jetty and the steps, stating that they were “to enable access to the pond” if maintenance is needed, or in the event of an emergency.
However Ed’s neighbours have even wrItten to planning officials to complain, with Kenny and Carol Cattee stating: “The so-called wildlife pond would now appear to be more like a swimming pool, which is somewhat different from the application.”
While neighbour Tony Robinson, reportedly added: “I believe that the development of the site is more about creating an environment for a ‘wild lifestyle’ rather than the actual ‘wild life’.”
Ed lives in his mansion with partner Cherry Seaborn, who he recently married in secret.
The property already includes an indoor swimming pool, a four-room treehouse, as well as its own built in pub.
“So basically there’s an underground tunnel to get there that you can close off,” Ed previously told Zayn Lowe.
So if I have a party everyone goes in the pub and no one can get in the house so you get no one, raiding the cupboards or smashing anything. You have to go underground to get to the pub,” he said during an interview for Apple Music Radio.
