In an interesting twist, the VIP car that hit a woman’s car in Nairobi has been confirmed to belong to the office of the Director of Public Prosecution.
This was revealed moments after Serah Gaitho posted a picture of the Toyota Prado vehicle with Reg. No. KCM 485Y on Twitter and police asked members of the public for information.
“The matter has been brought to the attention of the DPP. The motor vehicle belongs to the ODPP and the DPP has directed that immediate action be taken by the National Police Service against the driver involved. The public shall be informed of the progress of the case,” he said on Friday.
In the picture from Ms. Gaitho, two men alleged to be security officers are seen facing the camera apparently assessing the damage.
Other vehicles are seen caught up in traffic on the Kileleshwa bypass alongside the Toyota Prado that hit her car.
The driver apparently stopped for the two men to alight but quickly drove off with them moments later.
Ms. Gaitho proceeded to ask Kenyans on Twitter to help her identify the owner of the vehicle.
Police retweeted the photograph issuing a stern warning against VIP officers who harass motorists and asking the public for information on the two men.
The ODPP then took up the same photo saying the vehicle was theirs and directed that the driver be arrested.
Inspector General of Police Joseph Boinnet had earlier in the week warned VIP escort officers to adhere to traffic rules.
His remarks came after a similar incident on Langata Road where another female motorist was ran off the road.
