A Nairobi court has ruled that the aviation workers union members arrested over a strike at the Jomo Kenyatta International Airport will remain in custody for one more week.
The judge directed that a bail application for the Kenya Aviation Workers Union officials be heard on March 14, 2019.
The union secretary general Moses Ndiema was among those who were remanded on Wednesday for ignoring a court injunction that suspended their strike.
They are accused of leading a near 12-hour disruption of services at the airport, leaving thousands of passengers stranded and tens of flights grounded.
The striking employees are opposed the handover of management of JKIA to Kenya Airways, arguing that the deal could lead to possible job losses.
They are also accusing the KQ leadership of financial wastage.
Despite the court order, the workers insist that the strike is still on, even after the Government was forced to deploy military officers to take over operations at the airport.
