Police are after two VIP escort officers who allegedly hit a woman’s vehicle while driving on the wrong side of the road in Nairobi early Friday morning and then left the scene with little concern and bossy attitudes.

The woman quickly took to Twitter and posted about her experiences with the rogue officers whom she described as “very important people,” and asked fellow Kenyans to help her find them.

Soon after, the National Police Service responded to the situation indicating that the matter had been brought to its attention by activist and was being looked into.

The police also requested members of the public to report any information of sighting of the vehicle, a Toyota Prado with registration number KCM 485Y.

In another tweet, the National Police Service warned VIP drivers of the behaviour indicating, “All officers on VIP security duties have therefore been instructed to stop this behaviour forthwith; must, therefore, follow the highway code and obey the traffic law just like other Motorists.”

“Some of these officers have in the past been engaging in reckless behaviour & have been harassing other motorists in the name of allowing their VIPs quick passage.”

“This unacceptable behaviour has not only caused anger and concern on the part of the motoring public but has also resulted in untold suffering and inconveniences.”

It did not take long for the owner of the vehicle to surface and offer an explanation. Apparently, the vehicle belongs to the office of the Director of Public Prosecutions.

Addressing the matter, the office of the DPP tweeted, “The matter has been brought to the attention of the DPP. The motor vehicle belongs to the @ODPP_KE and the DPP has directed that immediate action is taken by @NPSOfficial_KE against the driver involved. The public shall be informed of the progress of the case.”

This is not the first time that such an event is occurring since VIP security have been warned against faulting traffic rules and disrespecting other road users.

Following the incident, IG Boinnet has come out to order all police officers attached to VIPs to obey traffic laws and stop harassing other motorists. He vowed action will be taken against violators.
