‘You are reckless, pedestrian and thoughtless’ Ruto brutally fires back at Raila

‘Reckless, pedestrian and outright thoughtless’ These are the three words that Ruto used to describe Raila’s call for the creation of a three tier government.

According to the Deputy President, Raila wants to reverse the hard earned gains of devolution.

On Wednesday, the former Prime Minister said that there was need for a three tier form of government since some of the counties under the current devolution system as uncompetitive due to population size and other related factors hence the need to form regional governments, which he said would be more economically viable.

“One of the facts we’re dealing with but hardly acknowledge is that a number of our counties as they are today are too tiny to compete and to marshal internal and external resources for development,” he said.

But Ruto has termed this as a “a treacherous anti-devolution narrative that is simplistic, retrogressive and seeks to reverse the hard-earned gains of our reform endeavour “

” The success and future of devolution will not be created by the size of a county but by innovative and creative leadership.”

“52% of revenue goes to salaries and wages. Less than 20% goes into development. Suggestions for the creation of other layers of government is reckless, pedestrian and outright thoughtless.” Ruto added.

The two leaders have engaged in a bitter exchange of words recently.
