Ruto’s key highlights as devolution conference comes to a close

The Deputy President William Ruto has shared his key highlights as the 6th devolution conference comes to a close.

Ruto said that the six-year devolution journey has provided an opportunity to draw lessons and accumulate experience to better manage it.

He also added that devolution is young enough to accommodate lessons learnt, but old enough to expand the array of possibilities on harnessing its benefits.

The Deputy President gave his key take out focusing on the belief of positive impact in the country since the inception of a devolved government.

Ruto noted that the success of the devolution project has its footprint all over Kenya.

“Mandera, Wajir, Garissa, Marsabit, Turkana, Makueni, Embu, Narok counties have benefitted greatly from health and infrastructure interventions that have improved quality of life for residents. ” he said

The DP also mentioned that the success in different aspects of devolved functions is a clear demonstration that it is not the size of the county or its population that counts but the innovation, creativity and visionary leadership of respective county governments.

He however condemned wastage, mismanagement and corruption saying that it undermines the optimal use of resources.
