Guns turned on police over sugar boss death

The guns have turned on police officers investigating the abduction and subsequent torture of Nzoia Sugar boss Michael Kulundu.

Mr Kulundu died roughly two months after the mysterious abduction that rendered him unconscious

His family members confirmed that the Managing Director, who was on acting capacity at the sugar firm, passed on while receiving treatment in Nairobi.

In January 3, 2019, the MD was discovered lying unconscious inside a trench 100 meters away from Salmond View Restaurant in Bungoma town.

He was attacked and left for dead by unknown assailants.

According to medics who attended to him at the time, Kulundu had sustained serious injuries on the head and a dislocated shoulder.

“Kulundu (54) suffered multiple injuries including a scar on the head, dislocated shoulder, cuts on the right hand, chest and lower limbs.

“He was in stable condition, we conducted the CIT scan and the X-Ray, he is in stable condition now but we are transferring him to Aga Khan, Kisumu for specialised treatment,” a medical officer stated at the time.

He was then taken to Bungoma West Hospital before he was transferred to Aga Khan Hospital.

Police are, however, yet to release an update over investigations into his kidnapping.

According to Nzoia Sugar Company Workers Union Secretary-General Macdonald Wamacho, the three attackers who abducted Kulundu were armed with AK47 guns.
