Avril candidly opens up about why she left Kaka Empire.

Kenya’s songbird Avril is finally back in the music game after her maternity break.

Her newly released song, Kitoko featuring L Rice, is what initially hinted to her fans that she is no longer signed under Kaka Empire’s management.

I was signed in for a management contract, but yes I am no longer with kaka empire. I left because I needed a different chapter. Right now I have my own thing ‘link sasa universal’ with some friends. Its all about music distribution and songwriters.

They have worked with various artistes within East Africa including: master peace, wahu and Tommy Flavor from Tanzania in terms of distribution and publishing their music.

“Slowly we are being fashioned into a label.”

Avril confesses that the work involved with being signed under a label was less compared to her newly acquired independence.

“The only problem comes in when it is time for any decision-making it takes a while but being independent, you can wake up and do what makes you happy.”

Her new song, ‘Kitoko’ featuring L Rice who is a Congolese was a good decision for her new project despite the language barrier. Luckily for her,
J Blessing was there to translate.

Avril decided to work on collaborations but not the obvious ones. She says she tremendously enjoyed working on that song.
