The secretive life of crashed Ruto’s captain

Gladys Magonga, sister to Deputy President William Ruto’s pilot, Mario Masiba, who got killed in a plane crash at Central Island National Park in Turkana, did not know he worked for the DP.

She described the brother as a reserved person who did not involve the family in the work he was doing because of its nature.

Ms Magonga expressed her shock when she learnt her brother worked for the Deputy President.

Secretive life

“I knew he was a pilot but I did not know he worked for the Deputy President,” she stated.

Reports from Daily Nation reveal she received the news at around 5am from her brother’s wife who was unable to express herself properly.

“I was shocked. We tried to keep the information from our mother because she’s fragile due to health issues,” she noted.

Switched off TV

Ms Magonga added the news was all over, so the family had to switch off the television, keep the radio away and divert her calls.

Melania Magonga, mother of the pilot, explained how the daughters tried to keep the sad news from her.

“I had no clue about anything, I was on my routine walk when my neighbour asked me why my daughter was crying outside the gate,” she stated.

In ICU

“I met with church members who informed me of the plane crash and that my son was in ICU,” she added.

Ms Melania explained she had a feeling that something was not right.

“I told them that they were lying since no one would survive a plane crash,” she noted.

The 45-year-old’s family described him as a philanthropic person who was also the breadwinner.

Captain Mario Magonga died on Sunday in a helicopter crash in Turkana County alongside four Amercans.
