Relief for sugarcane farmers as Kiunjuri finally comes to the rescue

Agriculture Cabinet Secretary Mwangi Kiunjuri has finally relieved sugarcane farmers of their long-time plight of not being paid.

The CS on Monday broke the good news to them that his ministry had received Sh2.7 billion from the National Treasury to pay them.

Speaking in Nairobi, Mr Kiunjuri said the persistent problems facing the sugarcane industry will now become a thing of the past.

He said that the government and other players are working to privatise sugar companies that are struggling financially in the competitive market.

“For 20 years, we have been facing challenges on how to pay our farmers,” Mr Kiunjuri said. “This is set to change as our farmers will be smiling all the way to the bank.”
