President Kenyatta’s key highlights during the 6th Annual Devolution Conference

President Uhuru Kenyatta has today urged Governors to focus on service delivery and  resist corruption.

The head of state mentioned that Kenya embarked on the devolution path with the determination to succeed.

“Over the last six years, we have made significant milestones in the social, economic and political renewal of our Republic, thanks to Devolution” he said

Kenyatta also noted that every Kenyan expects each and every County to prosper and improve the standard of living of its citizens.

He also addressed the governors saying that the hour has come for leaders  to raise the bar in delivery of public services and accountability.

“I urge all County Governments to turn their focus on delivering on the hopes and dreams of Kenyans through tireless commitment to duty, integrity and servant-leadership. Fiscal prudence & curbing wastage is a must at all levels of government to fully realize our development dream” he stated

The President said that devolution was informed and inspired by among others, the desire to foster national unity with a view of ensuring equitable development.

He also maintained that the state of Kenya’s devolved units is strong and must be seen to deliver measurable improvements in the standard of living of our people.

“As we strive to build our Nation and fill the national basket with the fruits of our labour, it is unfortunate that some have their hands in that basket, taking away from the Common Good the necessary resources needed to build a better Kenya for All” he added

He also urged Governors and leaders in general to desist from creating barriers, hurdles and obstacles in the work of all the State Agencies involved in the war against corruption.

“ I call on all Governors to join me in this generational struggle, where we must emphatically say no to corruption” said the head of state

President Kenyatta concluded by  calling on County Governments to leverage on the diverse expertise available to move Devolution forward for national development. He noted that counties have the capacity to change the lives of their constituents by concentrating more on service delivery.
