Is Manchester United’s Antonio Valencia’s stint over at Trafford? Here he shares his injury update

Manchester United have kept their silence on the possibility of returning to form and play of their captain Antonio Valencia who has not played a lot this season out of an injury and his contract has not been extended.

Antonio Valencia has shared a video of him sprinting on a beach in his native Ecuador as he continues his rehabilitation from injury.

Valencia hasn’t played since United’s win at Newcastle on January 2 and has managed just nine appearances all season.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer confirmed last week that Valencia had suffered another calf injury and would be out until the end of March.

Valencia could be released this summer after United decided against triggering a one-year extension in the 33-year-old’s contract last week.

His current deal expires at the end of June and he went ahead and tweeted last week to say he is focused on recovering from injury so that he can finish the season at United and early this week he uploaded footage of him training to his Instagram account.

“It’s never too late to start over,” Valencia wrote alongside the video. “I mean, every step of the way, I just tried to build something that would last. The greatest peace we find is when we try to achieve our dreams. At every stage of life we must give our best to follow.”

Valencia is the first United player whose one-year option the club has decided not to activate since the clause was introduced by executive vice-chairman Ed Woodward in 2013.

The former Wigan winger is the oldest outfield member of United’s first-team squad and the club recently negotiated a new one-year deal with fellow 33-year-old Ashley Young, who is effectively the squad’s main captain.

United signed Diogo Dalot from Porto last summer with the intention of him becoming the club’s long-term right-back, and Crystal Palace’s Aaron Wan-Bisakka has also been linked with a move to Old Trafford.
