Remember #DeportKimiko after the DusitD2 attack? Here is what happened

The New York Times journalist Kimiko de Freytas, who was under wrath by Kenyans for covering the DusitD2 terror attack story alongside gory images has reportedly been transferred.

Kimiko, whose then Twitter status included her newly appointed position as East Africa Bureau Chief is now no more in Kenya as she is suspected to have been transferred to London as a correspondent.

On a Twitter image of her career experience, a newly posted image read, “Kimiko de Freytas is a correspondent based in London”, without the mention of her position in East Africa.

This comes following uproar after an article on the Riverside terror attack with her byline – titled ‘Shabab Claim Responsibility for Deadly Assault on Nairobi Hotel-Office Complex’ – appeared in the publication on January 15, 2019 containing images of dead people from the scene.

Kenyans on Twitter (popularly referred to as ‘KOT’), came baying for the publication as well as the author’s blood on #DeportKimiko, citing insensitivity in the coverage of the story at a time the country was mourning.
