Arrest Him! Nandi Governor Stephen Sang Asks DPP to charge Joho with this Offence

Nandi Governor Stephen Sang petitions DPP to charge Joho with drug trafficking

Nandi Governor Stephen Sang has petitioned Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) Noordin Haji to institute criminal proceedings against Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho over drug trafficking and money laundering links. Sang has incessantly associated his Mombasa counterpart of getting involved in narcotics deals despite the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) making it public it was not investigating the latter in line with the allegations.

In a petition by his lawyer Peter Musyimi of 360 legal firm, Sang wants Haji to move with speed and order for the arrest of Joho and his brother Abubakar Joho. The Jubilee governor alleged the two were implicated in drug trafficking and money laundering deals in reference to details contained in a report forwarded to Kenya’s government by former US US Ambassador to Kenya Michael Ranneberger.

“The report has never been acted for despite clear recommendations having been made to the government,” Sang argued. In a demand letter, Musyimi Sang alleged Joho and his associates deserved to be charged with counts of possession of narcotics and benefiting from the proceeds of the illegal business. According to Sang, Ranneberger presented the report implicating Joho and his associates to the Kenyan government through offices of Internal Security Ministry and office of the prime minister in December 2010.

In the petition dated, Thursday, February 28, Sang argued the DPP had all the required information to institute criminal charges against Joho. He said the suit was in the interest of public interest and administration of justice in line with Article 257 of Kenya’s Constitution. Joho had sued Sang and two other Jubilee MPs with defamation for associating him with drug trafficking.
