Manchester United caretaker manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has held talks with Andreas Pereira about his future at the club.

Pereira has started just two games since the Norwegian took the reins at Old Trafford, but finally looks set for an extended run in the side following injuries to Ander Herrera, Nemanja Matic and Juan Mata.

Pereira’s current deal is set to expire in the summer, and despite only calling on the Brazilian twice this campaign, Solskjaer is keen to tie him down to a long term contract, as per Metro.co.uk .

Pereira has spent two seasons on loan in La Liga since joining United as a youth player in 2011, enjoying successful spells as a regular first teamer at Granada and Valencia.

The 23-year-old is reluctant to commit his future to the Red Devils until he is assured of similar first team opportunities at Old Trafford, something Solskjaer has promised him between now and the end of the season.

Injuries have left the Norwegian short of options as United pursue a place in the top four, with up to 10 players unavailable for Wednesday night’s trip to Crystal Palace .

Marcus Rashford, Jesse Lingard, Juan Mata and Ander Herrera all started in the 0-0 draw with Liverpool on Sunday, with the latter three all forced off in the first half through injury.

The injuries have given the likes of Pereira and Scott McTominay opportunities to impress, and Solskjaer was delighted with what he saw from the midfield pairing at the weekend.

“There’ll be a chance for others,” Solskjaer said.

“I’ve been sat on the outside getting a chance [as a player] when this has happened, so we’d rather have to say players who came in.

“Scott McTominay and Andreas Pereira, I thought they did fantastic, so there you go, that’s the way it is. You’ve just got to the ready when you get it.”
