Reprieve as DCI withdraws summons against MPs over sex defamation claims

The Director of Criminal Investigations George Kinoti has withdrawn summons that required four Members of Parliament to record statement with hi office in connection with a sex defamatory remarks.

The four were linked to a sex tape involving Wajir Woman Representative Fatuma Gedi.

The four are: Eldas MP Aden Keynan, Abdihakim Mohamed of Fafi Constituency, Isiolo Woman Representative Rehema Jaldesa and her Kirinyaga counterpart Wangui Ngirici.

Kinoti said the orders were premature and uncalled for. He said there was no evidence so far to link the four to the said claims and therefore no need for them to show up as asked.

The legislators are accused of uttering defamatory statements that portrayed the MP in bad light following the circulation of the unverified video, which Ms. Gedi dismissed as fake.

A blogger Douglas Mbaya was last year arrested and arraigned in a Nairobi court for allegedly circulating the video.
