Nurses Union leader Panyako officially calls off strike after court summon

The Kenya National Union of Nurses (KNUN) Secretary General Seth Panyako has officially called off the nurses’ strike after being summoned in court.

Appearing Justice Nelson Oboudha for defying court orders, Mr Panyako defended his stand, saying he had not been served with the court order directing him to call off the strike.

He however was forced to comply right after the court proceeding, calling off the months-long strike since February 4.

“We are saying that we respect the rule of law and if there was any perception that we said we will not honour the court orders, that was being misquoted,” said Mr. Panyako after he left the court.

The judge discharged Panyako, ordering him to obey court orders in future.
