Meet Shosh…The 80-year-old Lady who Builds Matatu Sound Systems for a Living

Even at the advanced age of 80, shosh keeps going. The savvy business lady has made ventures into the largely male dominated world of audio systems.

Having come to define herself through her work, her story has been picked up by a number of international media houses like Al Jazeera.

Speaking to reporters, she revealed that many people at her shop get delighted knowing that she’s the one configuring their sound systems.

Real name Cecilia Kiminda, she’s specialized in the installation of car audio systems. Her prowess in the field is so defined that she’s also able to handle both video and Bluetooth enabled systems. Many Nairobians love her business aptly named Shosh Sound Systems.

She runs her company with her grandchildren. They employ 17 people at the moment, with several branches spread across Nairobi.

Her success does not end there. She is also a sound consultant at Ghetto Radio. The managing director, Maji Maji explained how much her expertise has helped the radio station, saying: She moves around, talking to the DJ, helping the DJ with different techniques.
