Arsenal boss Unai Emery issues injury update on trio after problems in Southampton win

The Gunners are back in action at the Emirates against Eddie Howe’s side and Emery is keen for Stephan Lichsteiner, Ainsley Maitland-Niles and Alex Iwobi to feature.

Lichsteiner and Iwobi played against Southampton yesterday in a routine 2-0 win for the Gunners.

But they were forced off with knocks and are now doubts for the game against the Cherries.

“I hope it’s only one knock and not a more important injury. I hope he can play Wednesday,” Emery said of Iwobi.

“Lichtsteiner has back pain but I think he can also be okay for Wednesday.

“I hope also Maitland-Niles can be ready for Wednesday.”

Alexandre Lacazette and Henrikh Mkhitaryan were on target for Arsenal in their easy win against Southampton, which put the Gunners back in the Premier League top four.

“I think we deserved to win. We got the chances, we played very well and I think we can do more [to make a] difference to the result in the final 20 minutes of the first half,” Emery added.

“The second half was maybe an under-performance from the first, but I think also we deserved another goal.

“It’s difficult to keep the intensity for 90 minutes, in the second half we continued with finding attacking moments and creating chances. The most important is the three points at home with our supporters.

“We are thinking it’s a good step and it’s game by game. Now we are happy, we are at the moment in this position and we carry on.”
