Sonko workers calls off 3 weeks strike

The Nairobi County staff have suspended their ongoing strike which lasted 12 days ago.

The workers now say they want to pave way for talks with the Salaries and Remuneration Commission.

The strike had affected operations in various departments, as cleaners, clinicians, cemetery workers left their work stations unattended.

The workers who are about thirteen thousand have been calling for the implementation of a 15% salary increment.

The Collective Bargaining Agreement was signed in May 2017, paving way for City Hall workers to get a pay increment of 15 per cent but the Salaries and Remuneration Commission rejected the deal.

On Wednesday, President Uhuru Kenyatta said the government does not have money.

Uhuru who spoke in Kisii, where he was accompanied by his deputy William Ruto and Opposition chief Raila Odinga, told those agitating for pay hikes to hold their horses until the challenges are addressed.
