Zlatan Ibrahimovic has heaped praise on Manchester United fans, describing them as “amazing”.
The LA Galaxy striker, who spent one-and-a-half seasons at Old Trafford, scoring 29 goals in 53 appearances, has discussed United’s supporters in a wide-ranging interview with the club.
The Swedish footballer helped lead United to League Cup and Europa League glory in his first season, but a serious metatarsal injury sustained in his first term prevented him getting back to his best in his second.
After it was apparent he wouldn’t nail down any consistent game time, Ibrahimovic secured a move to LA Galaxy in March 2018.
Nearly a year on and Ibrahimovic has looked back at his time at the club and credited United’s fans for all their support.
“Oh, the United fans, by the way… they are amazing,” he told ManUtd.com . “I’m not just saying that because I played for United. I know now because I’ve been on their side and I know the feeling they give you. I don’t need to lick a**, but the fans were just amazing.
He insisted their support encourages a player to give more to the club.
“When you get that support, it makes you give more back to them. We owed that to them. That is what triggered me, the whole season, not only winning the trophies, although of course you want to win the trophies.
“I remember walking out at Wembley for the League Cup final and seeing United shirts everywhere. And the noise… wow.
“Like I say, that triggers you. That makes you play.
“So that day, I get to score the two goals and we win a trophy.
“Just like I said we would.”
