Fun Turns Sour as One Dies During Boat Racing

The body of a 21-year-old fisherman who drowned during a boat racing competition on Lake Victoria has been retrieved.

The body of Steve Ochieng’ was discovered at about 11:30am at Sindo main beach in Suba South Sub county.

Fellow fishermen who had launched a search operation at the beach found the body.

The man died alongside his colleague Nicholas Omondi 25, whose body was retrieved on Wednesday evening.

Their vessel sank due to strong waves which hit and overturned the boat.

Senior Assistant Chief of Sindo Sub location Julius Otiato said fishermen and villagers had camped along the lake since Wednesday.

Five other fishermen who were in the company of the deceased at the time of the incident were rescued.

The body has been taken to Kirindo Hospital mortuary.
