On Sunday, Manchester United and Liverpool renew hostilities as Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s red-hot team host Jurgen Klopp’s charges in one of the greatest British rivalry.

With the trophy already elusive for the Red Devils, they will have one mission of destroying Liverpool’s chances of going top of the log.

Liverpool currently occupy second place in the Premier League table, with leaders Man City boasting a better goal difference and having played a game more than Jurgen Klopp’s side.

Despite comfortably beating Bournemouth 3-0 in their last top-flight match, Liverpool endured a frustrating goalless draw at home to Bayern Munich in the Champions League on Tuesday night.

United, meanwhile, responded to their first defeat under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer against Paris Saint-Germain in the Champions League last week by eliminating Chelsea from the FA Cup with a 2-0 win at Stamford Bridge.

And with the Red Devils flying high under their interim manager, Robertson is under no illusion as to how hard beating United – who the Reds defeated 3-1 back in December – will be this weekend.

And ahead of the league meeting, Paul Scholes believes United and Liverpool is the ‘biggest rivalry in English football’.

“I think it’s the biggest rivalry in English football,” he said.

“In a few years, if Man City carry on the way they are going, that [rivalry] might overtake it a little bit.

“You’d expect two Manchester teams to have the biggest rivalry, but I don’t think it is, I think it’s the Liverpool-Man Utd thing, especially with Liverpool trying to get to United’s record of league titles. We don’t want them to do that.

“United vs Liverpool is a big, big game and Liverpool are going really well, so are United.”

United will be desperate to beat Liverpool and “mess up” their charge towards the Premier League title. That is the verdict of Sky Sports pundit and former Tottenham midfielder and head coach Tim Sherwood.

“If Manchester United wanted to play this game, they would pick now, this moment, because they are flying,” said sherwood.

“And if they want to beat and mess up anyone’s season, it’s Liverpool.

“They’ve got something to play for themselves, absolutely right, top four.

“He [Solskjaer] is doing a good dress rehearsal so far [for the job] at the moment. I’m not sure he can do anymore than what he’s done.

“But this is a massive game, this is their biggest game of the season.
