Cartels blamed for influencing matatu fares in Nairobi

Even after the government announced new price of fuel,motorist have not yet reduce bus fares.

Now, Nairobi Matatu operators  chairman Jimal Ibrahim has blamed taut cartels for  fair hikes in the city despite fuel price reductions.

Speaking at a media briefing, Jimal said the matter has already been discussed with Sacco chairs and all have agreed to reduce fares.

The chairman also pointed an accusing finger at the government saying it is not helping Matatu owners fight off cartels.

Jimal also added that matatu owner’s biggest concern is the fear that the ‘mungiki’ style of operating matatu stages may return.

cartels operates on the outcast of the CBD, they come as hyenas and mungiki system is slowly coming back to the matatu industry” he said
