An Administration Police officer was battered to death while in his lawful duties by a mob when he went to collect money owed by a tenant occupying a rental unit in Sagutiek, Narok.
The officer based in the area had accompanied the landlord who had reported the rent defaulter when a confrontation occurred.
Speaking to journalists, County Police Commander Adan Yunis stated that the officer was killed at Sagutiek area by members of the public.
“He was in his lawful duties escorting a landlord to his plot when members of the public turned against him, beating him with crude weapons that killed him on the spot,” he stated.
His firearm was luckily found on him when his body was recovered. The officer’s body was transported to Narok County Hospital mortuary for a post mortem examination.
In awe, Yunis urged members of the public to accord officers the respect they deserved in the execution of their duties.
“My appeal to the public is to desist from attacking police officers. Why kill an officer who was in his line of duty? These are people who always put their lives on the line to protect you (citizens) and deserve respect,” he conveyed.
The county commander stated that investigations had been launched into the matter with one suspect already in custody.
“We are promising that no stone shall be left unturned until we ensure that all those behind this heinous act are arrested and charged,” he added.
