Is Swazuri Sincere About Why His Wife Miscarried?

It will remain in the memory of many the battle that the former National Lands Commission Chair Professor Mohamad Swazuri had while in office.

He was faced with corruption allegations that even saw him ousted from office, a thing which he strongly protested.

He now considers himself as lucky one after having finished his term limit on Tuesday. His narration reveals how strong he had to endure the hard times he experienced as the chair.

Speaking to KTN News few hours before exiting the office, the former Former National Lands Commission Chairman, on Tuesday evening, complained that his wife lost a pregnancy because of the pressure associated with the nature of his job.

He was keen to note that his leadership position at the commission took a toll on his personal life and family owing to a lot of work-related stress.

He even claimed his life was even threatened in several occasions.

“I have lost a child because of this. My wife miscarried because of this job, you don’t put that in the newspapers. I have escaped assassination attempts, eight of them, the media has only reported on only two of them,” lamented Swazuri.

“You think it is easy when people are trying to kill me. I have suffered and my family has suffered but because this is my country I have to serve and I am going to do what is needed. Whether the ministry likes it or not,” he added.

He seemed agitated, though, he expressed confidence that he served the people of Kenya as it was required.

What now lingers in the mind of many is his sincerity as only few like him would crucify their families for jobs.

In September last year, Swazuri was suspended from office by the Magistrate’s Court over corruption allegations.

The chair fiercely protested the decision before heading to the High Court where the suspension was lifted by Justice Hedwig Ong’udi.

The chairman has had a frosty relationship with some staff, including Vice Chair Abigael Mbagaya Mukolwe, whom he has accused of orchestrating his trial and ouster from the helm of the commission.

The working environment was not favourable to Swazuri, since he got opposition both internally and externally.

The National Land Commissioners had been in office since 2013 with a term limit of 6 years, which ended on Tuesday 19, 2019.
