Bus ferrying illegal refugees nabbed along lowdar- Kitale highway

Police in Kapenguria have intercepted 28 refugees en route to Nairobi without proper documentation.

They arrested 23 Somalis, two Sudanese and three juveniles at Tartar junction roadblock along the Lodwar-Kitale highway.

The 28 refugees lacked clearance certificates from the camp allowing them to move away from the restricted area. They were arrested after a tip off from members of the public.

The driver of the bus belonging to the Tosha bus company was arrested and later released after he convinced the police that he as not aware that the passengers on board did no have valid documentation.

“We arrested the driver of the bus who said he was innocent. The driver said he did not know the people were refugees who had escaped from the camp. We later released him,” the kapenguria police boss told the Star.
