World Cup winner a top target for Arsenal

Arsenal and Tottenham are interested in signing Steven Nzonzi when the transfer window reopens this summer, according to reports. Nzonzi, the midfielder, currently plays for Roma having joined the Serie A side from Sevilla last summer, shortly after he won the World Cup with France. The 30-year-old, who has played for both Blackburn and Stoke, was part of the France squad which won last year’s World Cup.

He has since played 28 times for the Giallorossi, but the former Stoke and Blackburn player could be sold at the end of the season with Roma chiefs planning a rejuvenation of their playing squad. And, according to Calciomercatonews, Arsenal and Tottenham are keen on Nzonzi, who turned 30 a couple of months ago.

The Gunners are being pushed as a potential destination as Monchi, Roma’s sporting director, is being linked with taking up the same position at the Emirates.  Arsenal reportedly want to hire the 50-year-old, who brought Nzonzi to Roma after previously signing him for Sevilla while in charge of the LaLiga club’s transfers.

Nzonzi is likely viewed by Arsenal chiefs as a replacement for Aaron Ramsey, who will leave north London at the end of the season to join Juventus on a free transfer. Tottenham are similarly seeking midfield reinforcements having sold Mousa Dembele, the Belgium international, to Chinese Super League side Beijing Guoan throughout the January transfer window.
