The 25th anniversary to celebrate the life and times of Kenya’s first Vice President, Jaramogi Oginga Odinga, kicked off on Saturday in Kisumu. Jaramogi, the pioneer opposition figure, died on January 20, 1994.
A number of activities were lined up for the two-day ceremony with a public session at the Grand Royal Swiss Hotel where East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) MP Oburu Odinga, Jaramogi’s elder son and Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong’o were among the speakers at the ceremony.
AU special envoy Raila Odinga and Ahmed Muhdin were the keynote speakers. Muhdin worked closely with Jaramogi for many years.
However, exiled firebrand Lawyer Miguna Miguna has read malice in Oginga’s anniversaries. He has condemned Raila for organizing more than six anniversaries between March 2018 and February 2019.
Miguna argues that Raila was wrong to hold anniversaries of his father who died 25 years ago aged 100, yet he has not organized anything for Msando, Pio Pinto Gama, Mboya, Oneko or the thousands of people killed during the post election violences.
“From March 2018 to February 2019, @RailaOdinga has ORGANISED more than 6 anniversaries for his father Oginga Odinga who died 25 years ago aged 100, yet he has not organized anything for Msando, Pio Pinto Gama, Mboya, Oneko or the thousands of people @UKenyatta murdered,” Miguna said through a tweet on his official twitter account.

Do you think Miguna Miguna is right to condemn Raila Odinga for organizing his own father’s anniversaries?
