Eliud Kipchoge shines at Laureus World Sports Award

Kenyan veteran marathoner Eliud Kipchoge has added another feather to his cap after shining in the Exceptional Sports Achievement Award in the 2019 Laureus World Sports Awards held in Monaco on Monday.

The marathon world record holder was feted for his performance in the long-distance race where he broke the previous record by 78 seconds.

Admitting he was nervous, the world champion thanked his fans who supported him on all his social media platforms and those who love the sport.

“A sporting world is a peaceful world, a running world is a  healthy world which is a wealthy and enjoyable world,” he stated while receiving his award.

Kipchoge had also been nominated for the Sportsman of the Year Award which was won by Serbian professional tennis player who is currently ranked world No. 1 Novak Djokovic.

During the 15th edition of the Sports Personality of the Year Awards (Soya) on January 11, Kipchoge was named the 2018 Sportsman of the Year at Fort Jesus in Mombasa.
