From a local university purchasing 4 TV sets for an approximate Ksh.4.5 Million to a Ksh. 7 million toilets project by Likoni Member of Parliament. Likoni Member of the National Assembly Mishi Mboko has finally spoken out over Ksh7 million disputed toilets expenditure that rocked her constituency.
Speaking at Shikaadabu Primary School on Sunday where she commissioned the 32 toilets, the outspoken MP revealed that the money was accounted for and that the toilets were meant to help the area residents which they did. She further explained that the necessary amenities were in a deplorable state all along until the Constituency Development Fund came to their rescue.
Mboko further took the opportunity to address her critics accusing them of spreading propaganda against her projects and yet her track record was clean. “There are those who are paid to spread lies about me but my record is clean,” she stated.
This is, however, not the first time outrageous expenditures on toilets have rocked government offices across the country.
In March 2016, former Vihiga County Governor Moses Akaranga was thrust into the spotlight for reportedly using Ksh11.3 Million from unbudgeted funds to build a toilet for a county-owned radio station.
The station, Vihiga FM, was a project sanctioned by the governor after he took office in 2013 and became one of the seven projects implemented during the 2014/2015 financial year, at a total cost of Ksh79.3 Million.
At the time of the expense, the radio did not have any staff and was yet to start transmission despite having a fully constituted board for a year.
In addition to the huge sum, the County was reported to have spent Ksh14.7 Million to erect a perimeter wall around the radio station.
