This is what happened to one man who was, on Monday, caught and charged after he was found trying to escape with his daughter, who was the patient at Kenyatta National Hospital to avoid paying the accumulated bill.
Court papers states that Bonface Murage Wangechi, 22, had put his daughter in a bag and tried to escape out of a Ksh 56, 937 hospital bill.
His escape journey was cut short by security guards of the hospital while carrying a blue bag on February 16, 2019, who forcefully opened it only to find a baby.
After investigation, it was found out that the baby had been admitted to the hospital for one month.
However, Murage pleaded guilty but revealed that he had taken that measure because he had no money to pay for the hospital bill.
Speaking before Resident Magistrate Muthoni Nzibe, the young father said that he feared that his wife and daughter will stay forever in the hospital after realizing he didn’t have enough money.
After his arrest, the hospital took hold of his wife and daughter while he was locked in jail.
Bonface will stay in remand until Tuesday, February 19, 2019 when the judge will deliver her ruling.
